José Andrés Group Opens Oyamel in New York City

The first-ever expansion of the beloved D.C. restaurant arrives at Hudson Yards

New York, New York – April 21, 2025 – Today, José Andrés Group officially debuts Mexican restaurant Oyamel in New York City at Hudson Yards. A day-to-night dining destination, Oyamel embraces the rich, regional diversity of Mexico through bold flavors, authentic ingredients, and a creative cocktail program that recalls the vibrancy of Mexico City and beyond.

“I am thrilled to bring Oyamel to New York City, a city as vibrant, diverse, and electric as Oyamel itself. I can think of no better place to welcome it than Hudson Yards, where I first began my New York City restaurant journey – and not far from where I first arrived to the U.S. so many years ago,” says Chef José Andrés. “Oyamel has always stood as a place for celebration and connection, and we are excited to begin a new chapter in its story here in New York,” added Sam Bakhshandehpour, Global CEO of José Andrés Group.

Oyamel resides at 10 Hudson Yards, where José Andrés Group debuted its all-day dining destination Mercado Little Spain in 2019. Oyamel is a completely new destination, separate from the wider market, bringing the flavors of Mexico to create a fresh neighborhood destination serving tacos, ceviches, enticing margaritas, classic desserts, and much more. Nestled below the High Line, Oyamel transforms the industrial character of its location and captures the essence of the Mexican street festival with vivid design details and an easygoing nature accented by natural materials and lush greenery. The restaurant will feature Oyamel’s signature butterflies and bursts of color to represent the energetic spirit of Mexican culture found throughout its cuisine, channeling the movement of a Mexican street festival. Creative direction is led by Rockwell Group.

The opening marks the second location of Oyamel, which originally opened in Washington, D.C. in 2004. A longtime favorite of D.C. residents and one of the city’s top dining destinations, Oyamel has been defined by its lively atmosphere unmatched in the D.C. region. Awarded a Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide to Washington, D.C., Oyamel D.C. has set the precedent for excellence at its new home in NYC, where it promises to bring new energy to the city’s dynamic Mexican food scene.

The menu includes classic street tacos, antojitos and small plates, a ceviche bar, and more, featuring authentic corn masa. Highlights include Callo de Hacha y Pulpo (scallop and Spanish octopus, pineapple and habanero marinade, jicama, grilled pineapple, serrano peppers, red onion, cilantro); Carnitas tacos made with fresh masa (confit pork, avocado, salsa verde, pork rinds, red onions, lime, cilantro); corn masa empanadas such as the Empanada de Hongos with mushrooms or Empanadas de Picadillo Campechano with smoked pork; and a unique Col de Bruselas con Salsa Macha (crispy brussels sprouts with chile morita "salsa macha”, dill and mint).

Oyamel will also introduce new ‘Mexican Fiestas,’ large-plate treasures meant for sharing and celebrating. These include classics such as Pollo al mole (farm-raised chicken over mole poblano, served with rice, avocado, frijol refrito), and Lamb Barbacoa, a lamb shoulder that is marinated in herbs and slowly cooked in a wood oven, both served with fresh corn tortillas.

The beverage program features fresh takes on Mexican classic cocktails and drinks like José Andrés famed Salt Air Margarita (Milagro Blanco, Magdala, lime, salt air) as well as "El Bajío" Michelada (beer, lime, dark sauces, tajín, spicy sauce), Pineapple Habanero (habanero-infused Rosaluna mezcal, caramelized pineapple "leche de tigre", tajín rim, salt air) and the Agua Fresca de Jamaica (hibiscus flower, water, cinnamon) as well as a collection of Mexican wines and beer.

Oyamel is an all-day dining destination.
